It is in Eastern Jamaica, in the parishes of Portland and Saint Thomas to be exact, that this chocolate’s cocoa is grown. The plantations lie along the plains beneath the John Crow and Blue Mountains.
Jamaica Cocoa Farmer’s Association was founded in 2008, when the industry was opened up to greater liberalization by Clayton Williams. It was to be the first ever non-profit devoted to cocoa producers in Jamaica’s history. Its objective is to further producers’ interests by promoting their crops on the luxury cocoa market.
