Marike Van Beurden wins the C3 competition

A real triumph for France
The final of the C3 International Catering Dessert Competition, organised by Valrhona, took place on Thursday January 28th at Madrid’s Fusion gastronomy fair.At this second edition of the contest, the trophy was won by Marike Van Beurden, from Maison Pic in Valence (France), with her ‘Carnival Crown’.Second prize was awarded to Kanako Sakakura (Norway) with ‘Delicious and National’ and third place went to Yannick Ferraton (Austria), with ‘Beauty and Macaé my way’. The Special Press Prize was won by Yannis Janssens (USA), for a dessert named ‘Maracana’. Candidates reaching the final of the competition had four hours to produce dishes they had created themselves on the theme of ‘Culture and the pleasures of the palate’, using Valrhona’s latest dark MACAÉ 62% Pur Brésil chocolate. The Jury, presided by Chef Léa Linster, judged the candidates according to the technique, expertise with texture, originality and creativity demonstrated in their recipes, as well as the associations of different flavours used.
